MYTHICAL REALM OF HA´ OLAM HA´ BA  / 2021-2022.
Part I - Hey, she´s got superpowers!

This exhibition explores the exceptional potential of power from a feminine perspective. Believing women hold an intuitive power to heal, protect and create change, the artists Sonia Carballo and Andrea Mindell Cohen engage in a dialogue about female power, drawing upon theosophical-mysticism and symbolism.

Andrea Mindell Cohen´s uses repetitive hands floating to symbolize the physical protection from a higher being that doesn’t exist organically but rather exists through by energies of the Divine, Shejina (female force in the cabala).

Heavy and textured collaged textiles that are soaked and stained with paint and layered onto raw canvas. These forms are detached body parts and represent the healing transformation within the body that happens at the cellular level. The fluid colours move between light and dark tones on the canvas to show the healing process. She investigates faith and immortality beyond by seeking strength through the healing powers of feminine heroines from ancient Jewish mythology.

Faith, mythology and history of human nature serves to elevate the importance of the divine and the ordinary and conceive courage to the notion of self-empowerment against harm.

Are we all superheroines with divine feminine superpowers buried inside all of us?
